every year as one of Las Vegas' premier courses is Reflection
Bay Golf Club in Lake Las Vegas. This Jack Nicklaus signature
course opened in 1996 and was rated "Best Overall Course" by Vegas
Golfer in 2002.
The course is a challenging 7,261 yards and a 74.8 course rating
from the championship tees. Players must use precision in order
to steer around enormous bunkering and heavily guarded landing zones.
The greens are sharply contoured and magnificently manicured,
making for some of the Vegas area's finest putting. Five holes at
Reflection Bay run along a mile-and-a-half strip along Lake Las
Vegas, making these holes especially susceptible to high winds.
Two of the four par 3s are among some of the best holes in Las
Vegas. The signature eighth is a relatively long par three, measuring
in at 199 yards. The green is located on a peninsula that jets out
into the lake bringing water into play on your left and testing
your wind reading skills.
The 17th and 18th at Reflection Bay are one of the most dramatic
closing holes in Las Vegas. The 17th is a 158-yard par 3 with water
running alongside the green and has been voted best hole in Las
Vegas. The 18th has water all along the right side and bunkers guard
the green against aggressive approach shots.
The luxurious Lake Las Vegas Resort is soon to be a major golfing
Mecca in the western United States, rivaling such places as Tucson
and Palm Springs. The Southshore Golf Club and Reflection Bay are
the first two Jack Nicklaus-designed courses in Nevada and are just
the beginning in what is to become a legendary golf destination.
Three more 18-hole courses are in development, anchored by the original
modern classic at Reflection Bay.
